Class of 2026 – Are you ready to get out there and visit your dream school?
Well, you’re in luck… Many universities have again opened their doors for in-person campus tours!

A New Era in Campus Tours

2020 marked the start of a new era in campus tours, with many universities introducing virtual options to explore the campus. While virtual campus visits can be exciting and informative, prospective students and admissions councillors know, nothing compares to actually experiencing the campus in-person.

Colleges Resume In-Person Campus Tours, with Precautions for COVID-19

With many now vaccinated, and cases on the decline, colleges are resuming in-person campus tours, now with new precautions. According to an article from Inside Higher ED, universities are limiting the size of campus tour groups – some offering private tours, and others limiting tour groups to just a few families.

For example, at the College of The Holy Cross, before the pandemic, the university offered 4 campus tours per day, and sometimes as many 100 people would join the tour. Now, in order to limit contact and reduce the spread of COVID-19, campus tours are limited to 20 persons, but are launched every 20 minutes throughout the day to keep up with demand.

Drew Carter, deputy director of admission at the College of The Holy Cross, when interviewed for the article stated that the college may keep the new format after the pandemic is over, stating that students can hear better in a smaller group.

Other colleges are following suit, such as the University of Rochester, which requires use of face masks and one month advanced registration. Other colleges such as South Carolina’s Coastal Carolina University does not require the use of face masks, but does require a health assessment before visiting.

Which Colleges are Offering In-Person Campus Tours?

College Kickstart recognizes over 500 schools in what they call their “coverage universe” that are now open for prospective student visits.

They have gone a step further to compile a List of the Top 50 National Universities and Liberal Arts Colleges now offering On-Campus Visits. This list includes campus tour info and registration links for those colleges that do offer in-person tours.

If you’re a high school junior or senior and you plan to visit some college campuses this year, take care, sign up as early as possible, and do your homework to ensure you know what to expect with respect to new health precautions when visiting.
